A Lesson in Rigging

Author // Ryan Grams

Back when the weather was warmer, I had the chance to use some of our more advanced rigging gear while working as the director of photography on a short film.  It was a run-and-gun, no-time-for-second-takes kind of shoot, but a lot of fun and a great chance to really put our gear to the test.

Here's the set up: I used two Manfrotto magic arms and 3 suction cups from FilmTools.com for the rigging on the car.

After the car rig, I converted the same magic arms for an impromptu snorricam.

Our talent (the wonderful Chris Audet) wasn't so sure about how this was going to work.  I told him to trust me.

The skyline at the end was the perfect highlight to a great day of shooting.

Check out the short film below! Skip ahead to 2:30 to see the rigging.
